Chelsea Transfer Briefing: Summer 2024. This is my first update of the save, so if anything is missing, please let me know.
Below is a brief update on Chelsea’s approach to the transferwindow, along with specific player updates for the season ahead, focusing on the latest news around Mike Maignan, and Nicolas Jackson.

I. Goalkeeper Situation
A. Completed Mike Maignan chase concluded: Chelsea won’t sign the AC Milan goalkeeper this summer. The Mike Maignan chapter is closed for Chelsea. Although they were “allowed to sign him last month”, Chelsea never made an offer. Their offer was “12 million pounds or so”, which was “still short of what AC Milan values him for,” and Chelsea therefore “tszoroťač from a potential deal.” In addition, there were “complications with a potential deal.”

B. Current Team Goalkeepers & Future: Chelsea currently have four goalkeepers: Sanchez, Jorgensson, Petravic and Penders. The only scenario in which the club would look to add a goalkeeper this summer would be if his shot-stopping abilities don’t meet expectations. Rather, attention must turn to handling the current quartet, with the caveat that “one of those four… will go out on loan to Strasburg and one of them may well be sold.”

II. Striker Strategy
A. Two Frontline Strikers Goal: Chelsea’s goal is “to have at least two frontline strikers in their squad for the new season.” That suggests that there’s an intent there to improve their attacking options and have more strength in depth in that position.

B. Nicolas Jackson’s Availability: Nicolas Jackson is not available. Chelsea are keen but see him as a key player in their two-striker system. The “eight years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge” after he signed a “two-year contract extension” last summer, which commits him to Chelsea until 2033.

C. Nicolas Jackson intrigue: Jackson has been “a pretty interesting guy this summer.

Premier League: “Three Premier League clubs want to sign him.”
Europe & Saudi Arabia: “Clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia have also shown an interest.”
Italy: There is interest in clubs in Italy, but it is “unlikely” he switches to Serie A. The reason is I am writing simply is that “the size of a deal the transfer fee and also the wages may be too big for an Italian club to afford this summer.
Acquisition Story: Jackson was signed by Chelsea from Val 2 years ago for £ 30 M.
