Date: July 25, 2025
Sub: Crystal Palace’s appeal against UEFA European football exclusion from the UEFA European Beer. If reports from The Sun and Martha Kelner are to be believed, Crystal Palace are set to launch an appeal against their exclusion from UEFA European football.
What’s it for? This document explains what Crystal Palace’s appeal, to defend their expulsion from the Europa League by UEFA, is all about.
Main Themes & Most Important Ideas/Facts:
Crystal Palace have lodged an official appeal against a UEFA decision to relegate them from the Europa League.
The appeal has been filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
A decision “perhaps that you could anticipate” after the organisation responded the way it did to the demotion.
The reason for the demotion is an “alleged breach of multi-club ownership regulations.”
Both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais were found to be “non-compliant with multi-club ownership regulations” by the European Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).
This had the effect of relegating Crystal Palace to the UEFA Conference League for the next season.
The appeal challenges UEFA’s decision and requests reinstatement in the Europa League.
Palace’s submission is for the “decision of UEFA to be set aside” and for the “club to be readmitted to the UEFA Europa League.”
They came up with two different scenarios for bringing them back in:
“With Nottingham Forest admission rejected”
“With Olympic Leon’s admission rejected”
CAS will issue a decision on or before August 11, 2025.
This date is pretty relevant, as it’s the day when Crystal Palace’s Europa League fixtures would start.
The parties are currently “exchanging written submissions under the arbitration rules governing Cass’s appeals process,” and then “a hearing will be scheduled.”
